From the Modesto City School District:
MODESTO, CA - Modesto City Schools officially reinstated three furlough days for the 2012-2013 school year. The District’s certificated, classified and management groups have agreed to the calendar changes.
“The reinstatement of the three furlough days is a direct result of the passage of Proposition 30,” said Superintendent Pam Able. “I am grateful for the collaboration of all our employees to inform the public about Proposition 30, and to the voting public for supporting education.”
The passage of Proposition 30 saved the District from a $13.2 million mid-year cut.
“The Modesto Teachers Association is pleased that we were instrumental in returning three days of education to the students we serve,” said MTA President Doug Burton. “Our goal is to return all furlough days for the 2013-14 school year.”
Following the teacher’s agreement, classified school employees also voted to reinstate the furlough days.
“Classified employees are excited to have three furlough days back,” said CSEA President Aaron Castro. “We proudly support the District’s educational goals and know the students will benefit from the additional instructional time.”
The following dates are now instructional student attendance days:
- Wednesday, January 30, 2013
- Friday, February 8, 2013 (End of 3rd Quarter – minimum day)
- Monday, April 29, 2013
Another calendar change to note:
- Thursday, February 7, 2013 is now a full school day
