Shooting in Modesto, suspect taken into custody | Community
MODESTO, CA - 21-year Kenneth Ware was arested Sunday after he allegedly shot a teenage boy in the leg then attempted to evade arrest, said police.
Police said Ware, arrived at a home in the 1500 block of January Avenue in Modesto Sunday morning where, according to neighbors, he was visiting a girlfriend.
Apparently, a fight broke out between Ware and a 16-year-old boy in the area and the boy was shot in the leg.
"This guy is always fighting over there and fighting with the girl," said neighbor Ethel Groothoff. "I said, 'Oh my gosh. Those are gunshots. Those aren't fireworks'!" said Groothoff. "We're sitting here watching 9/11 ceremonies and all of a sudden, there was this loud pop."
Groothoff said she and her daughter went outside to see what was going on. As they were calling police, Ware took off running.
Police canvassed the area and located Ware several blocks away on Whitmer Court. Ware refused to surrender and fled, said Police. A foot pursuit ensued in which an officer shot at Ware, but missed.
Police said officers finally managed to catch Ware and arrest him.
The gunshot victim is expected to be OK.
