MODESTO, CA - A murder suspect featured on 'America's Most Wanted' was arrested in southeast Modesto on Thursday.
Mario Hernandez, 24, who was featured on the national television show highlighting sought criminals, was wanted in connection with a murder in San Jose, said Lieutenant Rick Armendariz of the Modesto Police Dept.
According to Armendariz, Modesto police received an anonymous tip on Thursday that Hernandez was in a home on the 2400 block of Encina Ave. Officers and Street Gang Unit members arrived at the home around 9 p.m., surrounded the property, and ordered Hernandez to surrender over a loud speaker.
Kathryn Tisdale, 18, came out of the home and told police she did not know Hernandez or his whereabouts, said Armendariz. Officers continued orders over the loudspeaker nonetheless and Hernandez emerged from the home and surrendered about 30 minutes later.
Modesto police officers later discovered that Tisdale was Hernandez' girlfriend and knew he was wanted. She was therefore arrested for harboring a wanted felon and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center, Armendariz said.
Hernandez was turned over to the homicide investigators from the San Jose Police Dept. and returned to San Jose.
