Crime

MODESTO, CA - Modesto police arrested two men and still seek a third suspect on a double shooting Oct. 14 that left a 15-year-old teen dead and 23-year-old man wounded.

The walk-up shooting took place in front of a home on the 2100 block of Conant Avenue about 10:45 that night.

Police did not release the names of those shot.

Arrested were Santos Joseph Garcia, 25 and Brian Storment, 18, both of Modesto. Monday the two were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail, each on one count of murder and attempted murder, said Lt. Rick Armendariz.

The reason for the shootings was unclear, however, Armendariz said detectives think gang connections on the part of the suspects may have played a part.

Investigators are looking for a third man for his alleged role. He is Jeremy Anthony Romero, 28, of Modesto. Describing Romero as armed and dangerous, detectives think he is on the run.

Romero has several tattoos on his face and head which make him distinctive. They are the word "Cal" tattooed under his left eye, the word "Modesto" tattooed on his right jaw, the number "209" tattooed on the right side of his face, and a large five-point red star tattooed on the left side of his neck.

Anyone with information on Romero's whereabouts was urged to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters can also text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637. Type "TIP704" along with your message.
