Arrest made in hit-and-run death of Keyes farmer

KEYES, CA - The California Highway Patrol made an arrest in connection with a hit-and-run fatality in which a Keyes farmer was killed last week.

Sgt. Ben Moser said Patrick Michael Denny, 41, was arrested as the suspected driver in the incident during a traffic stop in Modesto Sunday night.

Denny is suspected of hitting and killing Stanley Roy Hyer of Modesto with his pick-up truck on Thursday, Nov. 9, after the Keyes farmer allegedly saw Denny dumping trash on his Keyes Road property and chased him on his ATV.

Hyer's lifeless body was found on the ground a short while later.

Hyer's father, Norman, said he believed his son pursued Denny on his ATV, then got off to cut him off on foot.

"I know he was trying to stop the car. They hit him and kept on going. I don't know why people throw trash in the fields, then when they get caught, they do other stupid things," said Norman Hyer.

Denny was booked into custody on a charge of murder and held on $30,000 bail, said Moser.
