Man wounded in west Modesto shooting | Crime

MODESTO, CA - A man was shot while in his car in a west Modesto neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Oak Street around 1:48 p.m. after getting calls of gunshots being heard in the area, Modesto police Sgt. Ivan Valencia said. Witnessed said they saw a black SUV drive away from the area shortly after shots were fired.

About 20 minutes later, police got a call from a hospital to report a gunshot victim.

Valencia said the man drove himself to the hospital in his black SUV after being shot on the 200 block of Maple Street, a block away from where officers originally responded. His wound appeared to be non-life threatening.

When officers examined the victim's SUV, they found several bullet holes.

A subject was detained and questioned by police to determine his involvement in the shooting, Valencia said.
