MODESTO, CA - Four people were injured in a drive-by shooting Thursday night in a south Modesto neighborhood.

A car drove up to the four victims on the 1400 block of Western Avenue around 8 p.m., fired multiple shots and then drove away, Modesto police Lt. Craig Gundlach said.

Three of the victims suffer from non-life threatening injuries; the fourth victim's injuries were more serious. All four victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Gundlach said the suspect vehicle is a dark or a white small car.

MODESTO, CA - A man pulled from a house fire in Modesto Friday morning has died, according to the Modesto Fire Department.

Firefighters were sent to a report of smoke from a home on the 1700 block of Judy Court at 10:41 a.m., Battalion Chief Hugo Patino said. He said crews found the flames contained to one bedroom and heavy smoke in the rest of the house.

Firefighters and paramedics performed life-saving measures on the victim who was transported to Doctors Medical Center. However, the man did not survive.

When crews investigated the scene, they found evidence of a burglary and arson, Modesto police Sgt. Rick Applegate said.

Patino pegged the cost of the damage to the house and its contents at $75,000.

The homeowner, Mike, talked about the damage to the home. Inside, the walls were covered with, what Mike identified as, flammable liquid.

MODESTO, CA - A Modesto man whose body was found in the Tuolumne River last week had been killed, according to the Modesto Police Department.

Daniel Joseph Montgomery Allen, 21, was reported missing by his family last December, said police Lt. Rick Applegate. A passerby spotted Allen's body in the river between the 7th Street Bridge and Highway 99 in Modesto on Feb. 28 and reported it to authorities.

Applegate did not say how Allen died. Detectives were investigating and encouraged anyone with information about Allen's murder to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Tipsters can also text information to Crime Stoppers by sending a text message to 274637. Type "TIP704" along with the message.
