CERES, Calif. - Ceres officers were forced to shoot a man Monday night after he charged them with a machete knife, according to police.

Sergeant Jose Berger of the Ceres Police Dept. said officers were dispatched to a home on the 2400 block of Pineridge Rd. after the parents of a 34-year-old man informed police he was behaving "strangely."

Officers arrived at the home around 7:35 p.m. and began interacting with the man. At some point during the interaction, the man became aggressive, picked up a machete and charged officers, said Berger.

The two officers attempted to subdue the man with bean bag rounds but the man continued to advance, so they fired their guns, Berger said.

MODESTO, CA - Several warnings that went ignored, communication problems and departmental failures may have contributed to the deaths of a Stanislaus County sheriff's deputy and locksmith serving an eviction notice last April.

The new information was released in a critical incident review on Friday night by the sheriff's office.

Suspect James Ferrario, 32, gunned down Deputy Robert Paris and Locksmith Glendon Engert during Ferrario's eviction. Ferrario later shot himself and set the building on fire.

The independent report said "the deputies and sergeant did not effectively react to the verbal and written warnings."

A day before the eviction, Paris was warned of possible guns and bombs. The clerk added "be very cautious" and Paris replied "whatever."

The warnings were repeated in an eviction schedule given to Paris.

MODESTO, Calif. - An 18-year-old teen died following a stabbing at Creekwood Park in Modesto Tuesday night.

According to the city of Modesto website, Modesto police officers were dispatched to the park around 8:30 p.m. in response to a reported stabbing.

The first officer at the scene spotted a man near the intersection of Creekwood Drive and Claus Road who matched the caller's description of one of several individuals seen in the vicinity of the stabbing. The man was initially cooperative with the officer, but then fled on foot. He was arrested near the Johansen High School Stadium following a brief foot pursuit, according to the report.

The man, Jacob Segura, 18, of Modesto was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder and robbery, said Lt. Rick Applegate.
