CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Suspected robber punches store clerk

MODESTO, CA - Store surveillance camera photos captured a man punching a store employee during a robbery in Modesto Monday evening.

The Coach store at Vintage Faire Mall was robbed just before 6:26 pm., said Modesto police spokesman Ivan Valencia.

A man came into the store and snatched up several handbags on display, according to Valencia. As the man left, a store clerk tried to stop him and was punched for her effort. She fell and the robbery suspect ran off with the purses.

Witnesses described the robber as Hispanic and about 5 feet 10 tall. He wore a gray sweater with a red hood, blue jeans and a black Cincinnati Reds baseball cap.

Man arrested in connection with Leon Way homicide in Modesto

MODESTO, Calif. - A man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with the homicide of an 18-year-old man in Modesto on Jan. 3.

STORY: Man dies after fight turns into shooting in Modesto

Following the shooting death Marty Kent on the 900 block of Leon Ave. 13 days ago, Stanislaus County homicide detectives developed evidence linking Richard Lionheart Teputepu, 19, of Modesto with the crime, said Sgt. Anthony Bejaran of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department 

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, sheriff's detectives and Modesto PD SWAT officers served a warrant at a home on the 900 block of Snead Drive where they believed Teputepu to be located. Teputepu surrendered peacefully at the scene and was taken into custody.

3 arrested in connection to 3 Modesto armed robberies

MODESTO, CA - Modesto police say they arrested three men for an armed market robbery Monday night and believe the trio are connected to two other similar crimes committed the same evening.

Police officers stopped a black Volvo at about 9:12 p.m in the area of Carpenter and Hatch roads that matched a car description of the vehicle involved in an armed robbery at Millennium Food and Liquor in the 500 block of Sycamore about four hours earlier, according to police spokesman Ivan Valencia. In the crime, two individuals entered the store and robbed the store clerk. One of the robbers wore a bandana and brandished a handgun, according to a witness. The witness also noted the robbers left the store in a black Volvo.

Body found near footbridge is missing Modesto woman

MODESTO, CA - A body found by a Modesto footbridge Friday night has been identified as that of a 28-year-old Modesto woman who went missing in December.

Eldoris Christine Graham was reported missing on Dec. 15, 2012 by her mother after not hearing from her for two days, Modesto police Lt. Rick Armendariz said. Graham's mother told police that she last talked to her daughter on Dec. 13 when her daughter said she was going to the Bay Area with her live-in boyfriend, 39-year-old Anthony Coxum.

Body found by Modesto footbridge

MODESTO, CA - A body was found at the base of a southeast Modesto footbridge Friday night by a passerby.

Modesto police responded to the corner of Claus Road and Creekwood Avenue around 7:30 p.m. to find a body in a secluded area covered by shrubs and trees, Lt. Rick Armendariz said.

Investigators were unable to determine the age, sex or condition of the body. The scene where the body was found was processed by police and the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office recovered the body to perform an autopsy, Armendariz said.

Man barricades self in Modesto gas station following fight

MODESTO - A man barricaded himself inside of a Modesto gas station after being involved in a fight on Sunday.

Police received reports of a fight taking place at the Shell gas station in the 1700 block of Oakdale Rd. around 6 p.m.

When officers arrived on scene, one of the individuals allegedly involved in the fight went into the building and refused to come out, said police.

The business was evacuated while the man remained inside, breaking several items, including glass bottles, police said.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., the Modesto Police Department's SWAT Team arrived on scene.

At about 10:45 p.m. SWAT made entry into the business and took the man into custody before transporting him to a local hospital.

According to police, the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

Avoid the 12 Stanislaus County DUI Campaign

The 2012/13 Winter Holiday DUI Mobilization crackdown on intoxicated motorists has ended, resulting in a significant number of DUI arrests from the various Sobriety Checkpoints, the Saturation Patrols and the regular law enforcement patrols throughout Stanislaus County’s “Avoid the 12 ” DUI Campaign during the past 19 days.

From 12:01 AM Friday December 14th, through Midnight Tuesday January 1, 2013 officers representing 12 county law enforcement agencies arrested 131 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  In 2011/12 118 DUI arrests occurred during the same time period.  Tragically, there was a traffic related death of a pedestrian where alcohol may have been a contributing factor in our area!  Last year there were no DUI deaths reported.
