MODESTO, CA - Peter Mishchuk from Antelope in Sacramento County was killed when chunks from a broken concrete divider slammed into his pick-up truck in Modesto Thursday morning.
California Highway Patrol Officer Eric Parsons says Mishchuk, 52, man was driving in the number one lane in the southbound direction of Highway 99, south of the Woodland Avenue overcrossing. On other side of the highway, a box truck traveling in the northbound direction, was clipped by a silver Toyota changing lanes. The driver of the box truck lost control and his vehicle slammed into the center divide before coming to a stop on the southbound side of the highway.
Pieces of the smashed divider hit Mishchuk's Ford F-150 pick-up and it struck the center divide, eventually stopping north of Kansas Avenue, Parsons said.
The windshield of a second vehicle in the southbound 99 lanes was smashed by concrete debris. That driver was unhurt, nor was the driver of the box truck. The driver of the Toyota, a 25-year-old woman from Turlock, had minor injuries but did not require transport to a hospital, Parsons said.
The CHP preliminary investigation suggests neither alcohol nor drugs was involved.
The crash was reported at 11 a.m.
