News

MODESTO, CA - An autopsy may reveal why a 31-year-old Modesto man suddenly veered off the road and smashed into a traffic light and concrete wall Tuesday night.

The impact sent the driver partially through the windshield. He was taken to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries but did not survive, says the California Highway Patrol.

The man's name has not been released.

The CHP says the crash took place at 10:58 p.m. The man was driving a 1995 Chevrolet eastbound on Woodland Avenue east of Lone Palm Avenue. It wasn't known how fast he was going. Suddenly, the driver turned to the right into the curb and vegetation. The car proceeded out of control in a southeasterly direction into the Woodland and Graphics Drive intersection where it finally stopped after hitting the traffic signal and wall on the southeast corner.

The CHP said the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
