Gary Condit's son seeks Calif. 10th Congressional seat

MODESTO, CA - The son of former California Rep. Gary Condit is running for his dad's former district.

Chad Condit, 44, is filing as an Independent candidate in the redrawn 10th Congressional District which includes the San Joaquin Valley.

Gary Condit, a Democrat, was a five-term congressman whose career took a turn for a worse when he was questioned several times in the 2001 disappearance of 23-year-old intern Chandra Levy of Modesto. Although he never admitted it, Condi, then 53, was accused by Levy's aunt of having an affair with her niece. His bid for re-election failed the following year.

Levy's remains were found in a Washington D.C. park in May 2002. Condit was never implicated in her death. Ingmar Guandique was convicted of Levy's murder in 2010.

Chad Condit faces incumbent Rep. Jeff Denham, a Republican, and Democrat challenger and former astronaut Jose Hernandez.
