Virginia Corridor Trail Closed On Monday October 8, 2012

The Virginia Corridor Trail and Briggsmore Overcrossing between Granger and Bowen Avenues will be closed on Monday October 8 due to maintenance on the trail. Teichert Construction will be applying a hydroseed slurry mixture of native grasses and flowers to the open planter areas of the trail as a final part of their construction project. Crews will be onsite during the application of the slurry mixture, but access to the trail and alley will be restricted throughout the day and trail users are encouraged to take a break from their usual routine for the day. It is anticipated that the trail and overcrossing will be reopened Wednesday morning for use by bicyclists and pedestrians and that the grasses and flowers should begin to appear late winter or early spring.

On Saturday, September 30, 2012 the first annual Peace Officer Memorial Run will be taking place. The event includes a 1/2 marathon, 5K, free kids fun run and safety faire.

The events begin at 7:00am, and there will be a brief ceremony beginning at 6:45am at 11th and I Streets. Street closure will begin at 6:30am and will continue throughout the morning. There will be numerous street closures in the downtown area, as well as in the Needham/College area around Graceada Park. Portions of East Bound Scenic Drive will be closed from Bodem to Coffee and Oakdale to Clause Road.

We ask that motorists slow and drive cautiously in the effected area as there will be several hundred runners and walkers in the roadways. We invite the public to come out and enjoy the event and encourage the runners.
