2012 Poets' Corner Contest Winners Announced
Modesto, CA - Winners have been announced for the 31th annual Poets' Corner Contest sponsored by the City of Modesto Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department and the Modesto's Poets' Corner Committee, a sub-committee of the Culture Commission.
Judges selected 50 winning poems and 15 Honorable Mentions from 254 entries. Winners ranged in age from a third-grade to senior citizens.
The winning poems will be read at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the McHenry Museum, 14th and I Streets, Modesto with a reception to follow. Each winner will receive a copy of the Modesto Poets' Corner Celebration Program of Contest Winning Poems. The public is invited.
This year's special category was entitled “Centennials,” in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the McHenry Museum (established as a library in 1912), the Modesto Arch (dedicated on March 9, 1912, or other centennial celebrations.
